Rails to Ridges
Tuesday, June 25, 2019
Guelph

Ride the rails at the Halton County Radial Railway. It is a full-size operating electric railway and museum, featuring historic electric railcars operating on two kilometers of scenic track. The HCRR is proud to be Ontario's first and largest electric railway system. It was formed in 1954 by a group of men who wanted to save Toronto Transit Commission streetcar 1326 from being sent to the scarpyard. Next, we will go to the Aberfoyle Mill for an included lunch. The Mill originally functioned as a grist mill, powered by the pond situated at the back of the building. In 1867 the Mill won a gold medal, for its oatmeal at the World's Fair in Paris. The Mill functioned until the late 1920s. in 1960 the Mill was purchased by the Owens family and after about 6 years of restoration, it was converted into one of the most unique restaurants in Canada. After the Mill we will head on down to Springridge Farms to enjoy a farm wagon ride, a fresh strawberry dessert, and a quart of strawberries for each to take home. The Springridge Farm bakery is famous for pies and tarts. It all began with Cherry Pies using cherries from the farm. Now, over 50 years later, our bakers are renowned for their Strawberry-Rhubarb, Apple, and Blueberry Pies too!
