Historic Fort Henry Tour
Thursday, July 20, 2023
Kingston, ON

Come with us on a historic tour where in the morning we visit Canada's Penitentiary Museum. This award-winning museum is dedicated solely to the preservation and interpretation of the history of our federal penitentiaries. It offers a wide range of exhibits of artifacts from across Canada's federal Correctional system. After an included lunch at the Mandarin in Kingston, we continue to Fort Henry where visitors enter the realm of 19th century military life. Our tour includes a guided tour, scenic views, heart-pounding musical performances, and precision military demonstrations by the Fort Henry Guard. You will also see people representing the civilian population of the Fort as schoolteachers and soldiers' wives. Fort Henry garrisoned the British Army until 1870; was used as an internment camp for political prisoners during World War 1; was a Prisoner of War camp for enemy merchant seaman, soldiers, sailors, and airmen, during World War 11; and then reopened in 1948 for visitors. Canadian history buffs will enjoy this one!
